Working Memory Function in Children with Single Side Deafness Using a Bone-Anchored Hearing Implant: A Case-Control Study

The importance of a good hearing function to preserve memory and cognitive abilities has been shown in the adult population, but studies on the pediatric population are currently lacking. This study aims at evaluating the effects of a bone-anchored hearing implant (BAHI) on speech perception, speech processing, and memory abilities in children with single side deafness (SSD). INTRODUCCION La primera prótesis BAHA se coloca en 1.977, con idea de conseguir una mejora auditiva, aprovechando la transmisión ósea directa. La inseguridad inicial motivada por los posibles fallos en los resultados tanto de integración ósea como funcionales se fueron venciendo con el paso del tiempo a la vez que fueron disminuyendo las complicaciones quirúrgicas observadas.
